White Oak Flooring

This flooring is second only to Red Oak in frequency of use. It is just slightly softer than northern Red oak, but with less variation between southern and northern production. The heartwood is light brown and sapwood can be white to cream so color variation can be greater than in Red Oak.. In plainsawn flooring, grain patterns are open and swirly, but as in Red Oak, the grain in rift and quartersawn flooring (frequently sold in this combination) is tight and has greater toughness and dimensional stability, and for this reason, it is often used for radiant heat floors. White Oak flooring is selected for dyed installations because the color is more evenly accepted and for bleached floors where uniform “whiteness” is achieved. All nailing and finishing operations are easily performed with White Oak flooring.
