Beech Flooring
This closed grain flooring is similar in appearance to Maple, but with a deeper rich color which is its primary virtue. It is not as hard as Maple, but has good wearing qualities in the finished floor. However, it is not as easily worked as Oak during installation because of a tendency to split the tongues during nailing. It is less dimensionally stable in the finished floor than Maple or Oak. Beech resists stain, but its natural color precludes the need for stain. Beech trees are moderately available in Northern American forests.
